A slight hint of Best Coast, which is no bad thing, in the new single from Portland’s Genders.
Month: March 2021
Phantom Handshakes | Cricket Songs
Thankfully this bears no resemblance to the dreadful cricket-themed Divine Comedy spin-off, The Duckworth-Lewis Method, but has more in common with the game itself, a soothing presence in a generally soothe-less world. That said, it has nothing to do with cricket, as you might expect given that it’s taken from the forthcoming No More Summer Songs LP by the Brooklyn–Manhattan duo.
Melted Ice Cream | Morir de Amor
Perfectly pitched indiepop from south east Mexico.
Independent Country | Come as You Are
The country revisionists turn their attentions to Nirvana with a free download that presages a new LP, American Portions.
They’ll have to go a long way to better this though, from their debut LP, TrailerParkLife.
Lisasinson | Atasco
Any excuse to post the best single of 2020 — in this case it’s Perdona Mamá, the debut LP from Valencia’s Lisasinson.
Talking of excuses…
Marika Stuurman | Take a Walk
A debut release from San Francisco, which is exactly what it sounds like — and there’s a trumpet, which is always good.
Pom Pom Squad | Lux
“A razor-sharp bite of cathartic punk” from the Brooklyn four-piece led by singer and songwriter Mia Berrin.
Bathe Alone | Calm Down
From Last Looks, the debut LP from multi-instrumentalist Bailey Crone.
